Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
Our Approach
At The London Neurocognitive Clinic, we offer Acceptance and Commitment Therapy as part of our holistic, person-centred approach to emotional wellbeing. ACT is evidence-based and rooted in behavioural science and mindfulness, helping clients to develop greater awareness of their thoughts and emotions without becoming entangled in them. Our clinicians work collaboratively with individuals to clarify their values and commit to meaningful goals, even in the presence of psychological distress. Sessions are tailored to each person’s experiences, with a focus on empowerment, emotional resilience, and living a fulfilling life.
How does ACT differ from traditional talking therapies?
Unlike some therapeutic models that focus on changing the content of one’s thoughts, ACT helps individuals to change their relationship with difficult thoughts and feelings. It encourages acceptance of what cannot be controlled, while simultaneously fostering committed action toward what truly matters. Clients often find this approach particularly helpful when struggling with anxiety, depression, or chronic health conditions, where resistance to discomfort can become part of the problem.

Can ACT help with neuropsychological or neurological conditions?
Absolutely. ACT has been increasingly used alongside neuropsychological rehabilitation and in the context of chronic conditions such as acquired brain injury, stroke recovery, or functional neurological symptoms. It supports individuals in adjusting to life changes, coping with uncertainty, and rebuilding a meaningful identity

Is ACT suitable for young people or families?
Yes. While ACT is often used with adults, it can be adapted for children, adolescents, and family systems. Our clinicians use developmentally appropriate language and interactive tools to engage younger clients and help families work together toward shared goals and values.
Questions our clients ask
Frequently asked questions
You may have lots of questions and that’s understandable. We have provided some answers below to frequently asked questions but if you’re still unsure about something do get in contact with us.
What kinds of concerns can ACT address?
ACT is used to support individuals facing a range of challenges, including anxiety, low mood, trauma, chronic illness, adjustment difficulties, and identity-related struggles. It is especially effective for those feeling “stuck” or disconnected from what matters most in life.
How many sessions are usually recommended?
The number of sessions varies depending on the individual and the complexity of the presenting concerns. Some clients benefit from brief interventions (6–8 sessions), while others engage in longer-term therapy. During your initial consultation, our clinicians will work with you to determine an appropriate plan.
Can ACT be combined with other therapies or approaches?
Yes. ACT is highly adaptable and can be integrated with cognitive rehabilitation, psychoeducation, or other psychological therapies depending on the client’s needs. Our clinicians often use ACT as part of a broader neuropsychological or multidisciplinary care plan.
