Immediate Needs Assessment
Our Approach
Our Immediate Needs Assessments are comprehensive, neuropsychology-led evaluations designed to identify the full range of a client’s needs after neurological or psychological injury or illness.
Each assessment is tailored to the individual. It may involve meeting with the client and their family, reviewing relevant medical and therapy records, and exploring both clinical and environmental factors that influence recovery.
Following the assessment, the neuropsychologist provides a detailed written report outlining the client’s strengths, areas of difficulty, and recommendations for rehabilitation. This report serves as a roadmap for ongoing case management and coordinated care.
Our approach ensures that all recommendations, whether for therapy, equipment, or psychosocial support are informed by an understanding of the brain, behaviour, and recovery processes.
What does an Immediate Needs Assessment involve?
The assessment typically includes:
- A comprehensive clinical interview with the client (and, where appropriate, family or carers).
- Review of medical, neuropsychological, and therapy records.
- Evaluation of cognitive, emotional, behavioural, and functional needs.
- Consideration of environmental and social factors, including home or workplace setup.
- Formulation of recommendations and goals for rehabilitation, therapy, and care coordination.
The process is designed to be both supportive and collaborative, ensuring that the client and their family understand the recommendations and next steps.

How does the Immediate Needs Assessment fit within Case Management?
The Immediate Needs Assessment forms the foundation of case management. It identifies what interventions are required, what priorities should be addressed first, and which professionals need to be involved.
In many cases, the INA leads directly to the creation of a rehabilitation plan managed by a neuropsychologist. This ensures that psychological insight and practical coordination work hand-in-hand to deliver effective, person-centred outcomes.

Who carries out the Immediate Needs Assessment?
At The London Neurocognitive Clinic, all Immediate Needs Assessments are completed by neuropsychologists specialising in case management. Their dual expertise allows them to assess not only clinical needs but also emotional adjustment, cognitive function, and family dynamics.
This holistic understanding ensures that every plan created is clinically sound, emotionally sensitive, and practically achievable.
Questions our clients ask
Frequently asked questions
You may have lots of questions and that’s understandable. We have provided some answers below to frequently asked questions but if you’re still unsure about something do get in contact with us.
How long does an Immediate Needs Assessment take?
An INA typically takes between 2 to 4 hours, depending on the complexity of the case. In some circumstances, it may be completed over multiple sessions or visits. The clinician will advise on the most suitable format during the Immediate referral discussion.
Do I need to prepare anything beforehand?
It can be helpful to bring any recent medical reports, discharge summaries, or therapy notes. If family members or carers are involved in daily support, their input is also valuable for creating an accurate picture of needs.
What happens after the assessment?
Following the INA, the neuropsychologist will provide a detailed written report summarising findings and recommendations. This may include referrals to other specialists, initiation of therapy, or the start of case management services to coordinate ongoing care.
