Multiple Sclerosis (MS)
Our Approach
At The London Neurocognitive Clinic, we offer specialist neuropsychological input for individuals living with MS at any stage of the condition. Our assessments aim to understand how MS is affecting cognition, mood, and everyday functioning. We work closely with clients and their wider medical teams to create practical, personalised strategies-whether for managing fatigue, maintaining memory, or supporting return to work. In addition to assessment, we provide therapeutic support to address adjustment, emotional resilience, and coping with uncertainty. We adopt a holistic, person-centred approach that evolves as the condition does.
Can MS affect memory and thinking?
Yes. Cognitive changes are common in MS and may include slower thinking, forgetfulness, difficulty concentrating, or trouble with word-finding. These symptoms are often subtle in the early stages but can have a significant impact on work, relationships, and daily routines. A neuropsychological assessment can clarify the nature of these difficulties and help differentiate them from stress, fatigue, or mood-related symptoms.

When is neuropsychological input most helpful?
Neuropsychological support is useful at various stages shortly after diagnosis, during periods of symptom change, or when cognitive or emotional concerns arise. It can guide workplace adjustments, rehabilitation plans, or applications for disability benefits. Our input is also valuable when planning for life transitions or evaluating mental capacity in complex cases.

Do you work with individuals with progressive or advanced MS?
Yes. We understand the unique challenges faced by individuals with progressive forms of MS. Our work includes ongoing cognitive monitoring, emotional support for coping with disability, and practical advice for carers and families. We tailor our recommendations to reflect the individual’s values, goals, and current level of function.
Questions our clients ask
Frequently asked questions
You may have lots of questions and that’s understandable. We have provided some answers below to frequently asked questions but if you’re still unsure about something do get in contact with us.
What’s the difference between cognitive fatigue and general tiredness?
Cognitive fatigue in MS often involves mental exhaustion after tasks requiring concentration, even when physical energy seems adequate. It may lead to reduced processing speed, irritability, or difficulty multitasking. Our assessments help identify and manage this form of fatigue through practical strategies and pacing techniques.
Can neuropsychological support improve daily functioning?
Yes. While we can’t reverse neurological damage, we can equip individuals with tools and strategies to work around difficulties. This might include memory aids, environmental structuring, problem-solving training, or therapy to manage anxiety and adjustment issues.
Do you offer support for families and partners?
Absolutely. MS affects the entire family system. We involve loved ones (with consent), provide education on cognitive and emotional symptoms, and offer joint sessions when needed. Supporting families helps ensure consistent, realistic strategies across home and social contexts.
