Our Approach
At The London Neurocognitive Clinic, our Belfast Regional Service recognises that people don’t always arrive with a single, clearly defined difficulty or a confirmed diagnosis. We begin by identifying the questions that matter most to the individual and those supporting them. Our multidisciplinary network includes professionals working across neuropsychology, clinical psychology, psychiatry and neuropsychiatry, occupational therapy, neurological physiotherapy, speech and language therapy and neuropsychology-led case management. The type of input recommended will depend upon the person’s presentation, circumstances and goals, as well as the availability of an appropriately qualified clinician within the Belfast region.
How can the Belfast regional service make specialist support more accessible?
People may experience difficulty accessing specialist neuropsychological or neurological rehabilitation services close to home, particularly when their needs are complex or span several clinical disciplines.
Our Belfast regional service offers greater flexibility in how specialist support may be accessed. Some appointments, including initial consultations, psychological therapy, feedback sessions and professional meetings, may be delivered securely online when clinically appropriate. Other assessments and rehabilitation interventions may require face-to-face contact, particularly where standardised testing, physical assessment or observation within an everyday environment is important.
A blended approach may sometimes be helpful, with selected appointments provided remotely and others arranged in person. This allows the format of support to reflect both clinical requirements and the practical circumstances of the individual and their family.

What if a person’s difficulties affect several areas of life at once?
Neurological and psychological difficulties rarely exist in isolation. Where difficulties overlap, multidisciplinary input can help develop a more complete understanding of the individual’s needs.
Not everyone will require several clinicians. Some people may benefit from one focused assessment or intervention. Where multiple professionals are needed, however, a coordinated plan can help ensure that recommendations complement one another and remain connected to the person’s priorities.

How do our clinicians work with existing local services and support networks?
Many individuals approaching The London Neurocognitive Clinic are already receiving support from a GP, consultant, community service, school, employer, rehabilitation provider or another healthcare professional. Our role does not have to replace that existing care. With the individual’s consent, our clinicians can communicate with the professionals involved and contribute specialist assessment, formulation or recommendations where these may be helpful. Our clinicians remain attentive to confidentiality, autonomy and the person’s preferences throughout this process.
Our Belfast regional service supports enquiries from Belfast and surrounding locations, including Lisburn, Bangor, Newtownabbey, Carrickfergus, Antrim, Ballymena, Downpatrick, Newry and neighbouring communities. If your location is not listed, please contact us, as in-person, remote or blended support may still be available depending on clinical need and clinician availability.
Questions our clients ask
Frequently asked questions
You may know that specialist help is needed without being certain which service to request. We have answered some common questions below, but our team can also help you consider the most appropriate starting point.
Can I contact LNC without having a confirmed diagnosis?
Yes. You do not necessarily need a confirmed diagnosis before making an enquiry. Some individuals contact us because they have noticed changes in cognition, emotion, behaviour or everyday functioning and would like a clearer understanding of what may be contributing to them. We will consider the concerns being raised and advise whether one of our services may be appropriate. Where medical investigation is required before proceeding, we will explain this.
Can support combine online and face-to-face appointments?
Yes, where this is clinically suitable. An initial consultation or background interview may sometimes take place online, while standardised assessment or certain rehabilitation interventions are completed face to face. Therapy, feedback and follow-up appointments may also be provided remotely in appropriate circumstances. The format will be agreed according to the purpose of the referral, the individual’s needs and the availability of the relevant clinician.
What happens if the specialist I need is not available in my immediate area?
Our team will review the nature of the referral and determine whether an appropriate clinician is available in the Belfast region. If the required input can be provided safely and effectively online, this may be offered as an option. We will explain the available options before any appointment is confirmed.
