Adult Psychiatric Assessment
Our Approach
At The London Neurocognitive Clinic, our adult psychiatric assessment service provides a comprehensive clinical evaluation for individuals aged 18 and above. We assess a range of conditions including depression, anxiety disorders, ADHD, bipolar disorder, psychosis, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), and addiction, helping to clarify diagnosis, understand the interplay between cognitive and emotional factors, and inform appropriate next steps
What does our adult psychiatric assessment involve?
An adult psychiatric assessment begins with a detailed clinical interview, during which we explore the nature, onset, and course of symptoms, as well as their impact on mood, thinking, behaviour, relationships, and daily functioning.
We take a thorough history covering previous mental health input, medical background, medication, substance use, and relevant life events. Where helpful, the assessment may also draw on collateral information from family members, partners, or other professionals, as well as a review of previous reports and medical records.
The outcome of the assessment is a clear clinical understanding, which may include diagnostic impressions, a formulation of contributing and maintaining factors, and tailored recommendations addressing both cognitive and emotional aspects of the individual’s presentation.

Who might benefit from an adult psychiatric assessment?
An adult psychiatric assessment may be helpful for individuals who are experiencing persistent or distressing changes in mood, thinking, or behaviour that are affecting their daily life, relationships, or work. It may also be appropriate for those who have received previous diagnoses but feel their difficulties have not been fully understood, for individuals seeking a second opinion, or for those who suspect a condition such as ADHD, bipolar disorder, or PTSD may have gone unrecognised.
The assessment is open to anyone aged 18 and above who is seeking greater clarity about their mental health.

How can an adult psychiatric assessment help?
A comprehensive adult psychiatric assessment can provide:
- Greater clarity around symptoms and diagnosis in adulthood
- Understanding of how cognitive, emotional, and psychological factors interact
- Identification of conditions that may have been previously unrecognised or misdiagnosed
- Guidance on appropriate treatment pathways, including therapy and specialist referrals
- A structured clinical report that can be shared with other professionals, employers, or services if needed
