Biography
Dr Fergus Gracey is a clinical neuropsychologist, with over 20 years of clinical and research experience supporting individuals of all ages with acquired brain injuries. He has extensive experience in leading holistic neuropsychological rehabilitation services for children, young people and adults with acquired brain injuries and their families. He served as the Clinical Lead at the Oliver Zangwill Centre for Neuropsychological Rehabilitation, and consultant and service lead for the Cambridge Centre for Paediatric Neuropsychological Rehabilitation, where he maintains and honorary role. Dr Gracey currently co-leads the neuropsychology part of the Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at the University of East Anglia and holds a senior role in the research part of the doctorate. He further shares his knowledge and expertise through teaching and training, contributing to the three training courses for clinical neuropsychology run within the UK.
Dr Gracey has an international reputation in clinically oriented research, specializing in rehabilitation of executive dysfunction, identity and psychosocial adaptation, psychological therapies and family support. His influential Y-Shaped model of rehabilitation is widely applied clinically and is highly cited in the literature on rehabilitation following brain injury.
Dr Gracey is registered on the British Psychological Society’s (BPS) Specialist Register of Clinical Neuropsychologists. He holds leadership roles within the BPS Division of Neuropsychology Policy Unit (Deputy Chair, Co-Lead for Rehabilitation, and Co-Lead for Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion, EDI). He also holds several honorary positions: he serves on the Board of Associate Editors for Neuropsychological Rehabilitation, is a committee member for AnchorPoint, the WFNR Organisation for Psychological Research in Stroke (OPSYRIS), and the Norfolk and Waveney Acquired Brain Injury Network (a local branch of the UK ABI Forum).
His contributions reflect a deep commitment to advancing neuropsychological rehabilitation through humanistic and holistic clinical practice, collaborative service development, and research-driven innovation.
Awards & Education
Dr Fergus Gracey earned a Master’s degree in Health/Medical Psychology from City St George’s, University of London, before completing his Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (DClinPsy) at the University of East Anglia. He later returned to the University of East Anglia to complete a PhD, further deepening his academic contribution to the field. He also received a Postgraduate Diploma in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy from the University of Oxford. His academic and professional journey reflects a commitment to bridging clinical innovation with real-world impact, particularly in the fields of neuropsychological rehabilitation, brain injury, and service development.
