Biography

Dr Lauren Burns is a Clinical Psychologist specialising in Neuropsychology, with experience supporting individuals living with neurological conditions and acquired brain injuries. She works collaboratively with clients and families to understand the cognitive, emotional, and psychological impact of neurological change, and to develop personalised strategies that support adjustment, rehabilitation, and wellbeing.
Dr Burns has experience conducting comprehensive neuropsychological assessments and delivering cognitive rehabilitation and psychological therapy. Her approach is holistic and formulation-led, integrating evidence-based therapies such as CBT, ACT, and Compassion-Focused Therapy alongside psychodynamic perspectives, allowing her to consider both the impact of neurological change and longer-standing psychological experiences. Alongside her clinical work, she has a strong research background and remains committed to integrating research and clinical practice to support meaningful outcomes for clients and their families.

Awards & Education

Dr Burns obtained her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (DClinPsy) from University College London. Her doctoral research explored long-term mental health outcomes following brain injury, contributing to growing understanding of the psychological impact of traumatic brain injury. Alongside her clinical training, Dr Burns has maintained a strong interest in research, having previously completed a PhD from Swansea University exploring clinical decision-making in mental health services. She also holds an MSc in Research Methods in Psychology and Cognitive Neuroscience, as well as a BSc (Hons) in Psychology, reflecting a longstanding commitment to academic and clinical development within the field of psychology.
Dr Burns remains committed to integrating research and clinical practice, ensuring that her neuropsychological work is grounded in evidence-based approaches while remaining responsive to the individual experiences of clients and families. She has presented her research at conferences, contributed to public engagement activities around psychological research, published work in peer-reviewed journals, and has delivered academic lectures and seminars.
