Biography
Dr Mohit Mohan is a Consultant Neuropsychiatrist with specialist training in neuropsychiatry, liaison psychiatry and general adult psychiatry. He has experience assessing individuals who develop cognitive, behavioural or psychiatric symptoms where an underlying neurological or other medical cause is suspected, as well as disentangling neurological and psychiatric factors when both may contribute to the clinical picture. His work has involved close collaboration with neurologists, other medical specialists and multidisciplinary professionals to develop integrated formulations and treatment plans.
Dr Mohan’s clinical experience includes working with individuals affected by:
- Functional neurological disorders/ Dissociative neurological symptom disorder
- Mental health difficulties due to Epilepsy and other seizure-related presentations.
- Sleep disorders
- Early onset neurodegenerative and cognitive disorders, including Parkinson’s disease, Huntington’s disease and young-onset dementias
- Inflammatory and demyelinating neurological conditions, including encephalitis and multiple sclerosis
- Neurological complications of systemic and infectious illnesses, including neurosyphilis and HIV-associated brain injury
- Brain injury and Post-intensive care syndrome
- Persistent physical symptoms, including fibromyalgia and post-viral syndromes such as myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS)
Across his practice, Dr Mohan takes an integrated approach to neuropsychiatry, drawing together medical, psychiatric and psychotherapeutic perspectives to understand complex presentations and develop treatment plans that are clinically rigorous, collaborative and meaningful to the individual. His approach recognises that distress and disability may arise not only from an underlying condition itself, but also from the consequences of illness, receiving a diagnosis, undergoing treatment and navigating healthcare systems.
Awards & Education
Dr Mohan holds a primary medical qualification, Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS), awarded by the University of Newcastle upon Tyne. He subsequently completed UK Foundation Training in the Severn Deanery, Core Psychiatry Training in the West Midlands Deanery, and Higher Specialist Psychiatry Training through the Maudsley Training Programme in London, including advanced training in neuropsychiatry and liaison psychiatry.
He is a Member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (MRCPsych) and is on the General Medical Council Specialist Register for General Psychiatry, with a sub-specialty endorsement in Liaison Psychiatry.
Alongside his clinical work, Dr Mohan has undertaken training and gained experience in a range of psychotherapeutic approaches, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Cognitive Analytic Therapy and Compassion Focused Therapy. He is also undertaking an Advanced Diploma in Integrative HypnoPsychotherapy, further developing his interest in psychologically informed and person-centred approaches to complex neuropsychiatric care.
Dr Mohan has an active interest in research and clinical innovation. His current research includes work towards the development of clinical hypnosis and hypnotherapy guidance for Functional Neurological Disorder.
He has contributed to medical education, clinical governance and quality improvement, including work with the Royal College of Psychiatrists’ Quality Network for Neuropsychiatry Services and projects focused on improving Functional Neurological Disorder pathways and wider clinical service delivery
